Hotpoint Ultima SEW85 dishwasher AL 01 error?

My dishwasher came up with the AL 03 error message. After r trying the obvious like poking the filter with thin wire etc to no avail we laid the diswasher on it's side, removed the pump and then removed a rubber sucker from an old cutting board which was obviously the culprit. We put the washer back together and it ran a cycle sucessfully. However it has now come up with AL01 and has a leak sign on the display. Also you can hear the pump going when the machine isn't even on or when there is no programme selected. We have again taken the back off to make sure that the hose was reconnected properly (which it is) and there is no obvious sign of any water so we are stumped now............can anyone help?????
