the motor runs, but the drum does not turn. the machine makes a rumbling noise.

If the motor runs but the drum does not turn then whatever it is that connects the motor to the drum is very probably no longer connecting them - just a guess.

You would do well to take a look inside - or call an engineer to do it for you.
