In which case you have power to the hob otherwise it wouldn't dispay a number.Number might be a boot up code or a fault code

Hi CK,
Thanks for all the info, I will try to fix it tomorrow.
One more thing, I have turned the wall socket off and put it back on a few times and sometimes I get a number displayed on one of the hobs without having turned the power on the hob.

you need to test to see if the power is getting to the hob connector with a multimeter.also whilst there check the connections are tight but switch off supply first.If you find supply and connections good then it could be a faulty transformer on the main pcb.this would require testing again or replacing whole pcb.some models have an internal fuse to the transformer which can be replace so check the fuse if fitted.requires the glass top removing to do all this though
