how to replace a broken on sewing machine?

how do i replace a timming belt on janome 609 sewing machine.the belt is inside the head and I cannot get to it I tried to take the Hand weel gears off but cannot figure it out do i have to get the bar thing off
( hand wheel) is off ) and slip it apart please help
