Mend Singer 750 Sewing Machine Timing Needle

How do i set timing on Singer sewing machine 750?

My needle hits the metal hook plate when in the down position. I believe i may need to replace the timing belt.
I would like to know how to set the timing on this Sewing machine. Could someone send me explicit instructions.
