Mend MTD 904 Problem Load Noise

Lawnflite / mtd 904 gear problem?

My 904 when in gear and in motion makes
Load clunking noise like the gear is slipping
In and out of gear. The motion is affected by this as well
causing the mower to wildly bunny hop
Any ideas?
