The Builders have done something so I had to reset to default but now on the remote display it is like counting through. I am not sure whether it has gone into Test mode. I have replaced the Battery as well. Can anybody help?

They'll have cut a cable. Happens all the time.
Get the camera out and take pictures of the damage when found, then send the bill for the repair to the builders(?), they have insurance for this sort of thing, or should have.

The only reason I had to do it because I could not stop the alarm which was somehow triggered by the builders either they accidently pressed the panic button or cut the cable. They were laying carpet at the same time when all this happened. I've got someone coming in tomorrow to check it. I will let you know the outcome. it is very old alarm but I have managed to maintain it for 15 yrs since i moved into this property.

Why, oh why do people "reset to Default" when something happens to their alarm system?
99 times out 100 that will be the LAST thing that needs to be done.
