Kenny: those springs probably came from a sprung safety switch which is on when you hold it on, but switches the machine off when you let it go. Unfortunately, good assembly diagrams are just about impossible to obtain. The manufacturers try to ensure this partly for safety reasons, and partly to protect certified repairers. Sadly even for minor work, it often costs about the same as a new machine.
