mower wont start?

my lawn mower wont start, but when i pull the rope it sounds like it wants to turn over.today i started mower until the gas ran ,changed oil.clean filter,and looked at the spark plug.i put reg gas in mower.my gas can is 2 1/2 gallon can i put stablizer in can.i checked blades.....why wont my mower start.help me....craftsman 6.75 horsepower 22" rear discharge power propelled rotary lawn mower model 917.377690
