Mend Craftsman 917.273622 Lawn Tractor

How can I fix my Craftsman lawn tractor model no. 917.273622 lift assembly?

I have a broken groove pin (part number 188822) which is in the lift shaft assembly for the mower deck. The pin was bent and could not be pulled or pounded out. So, I used a hacksaw and cut it off in the bend. I still cannot pull it out. If I pound on one end, the metal starts to mushroom. What should I do?

If you can then consider cutting any protrusion away and make it flush with the hole - then use a drift and a hammer to force it out. Be sure the drift is smaller in diameter than the hole of the pin.
