i have a mercedes a140 2000 and the revs go up and down by themselves and it cuts out occasionally and it misfires a lot, what is the problem and what can i do?

Having just bought a new gen C Class I am trying to get my Ipod to work the car does not have the comand system but has a usb and jack plug socket in the centre console but the garage does not have any leads to make the ipod work! any advice?
