Renault clio has lost acceleration and revs on its own?

I have a 1.2 8v 51reg renault clio, the problem i have with it that i could be driving along and the engine management light would come on and i would lose my acceleration and the car would start reving by itself, it starts to rev between 1000 and 2000 revs and the only way i could pull away is by clutch control. i have had 2 garages look at it and both have done work to it, one garage changed the throttle position sensors and the other has changed the throttle housing body, neither have fixed it but since the throttle housing body has been changed it only does it every other day, any1 know wat else i could do?

Renault Renault Clio 1.2 8v Vehicles, Cars Renault Revs Its

The past few months my car has been losing its revs, mostly when i stop at a junction or roundabout. Lately its been losing revs when driving on the motorway, takes a few seconds for them to pick up again. About 3 days ago the car started revving on its own, hitting 2000 revs when stationary at a junction. Taken it to the garage a few times in the past month, coming up with no fault on the diagnostic test. Had the labor censer changed at the garage owner recommended that could be the fault. Obviously didn't help. Any feed back appreciated :)

I have a Cleo 16V 1.4/2003 model, does the same. Yesterday I bought a throttle cleaner, sprayed half a can car seems in much better shape today.

9/10 the white plug in the fuse box area will be rusty with bad conections clean and all should be well

My one is the same cant find the problem alot of people i asked said it could be dirty fuel injectors or need replaceing
its very annoying was driveing along the other day and all of a sudden the revs got stuck then cut out im shure we will get a fix to this someday.

My 1.2 8v Clio does exactly the same had the throttle body cleaned and changed and wiring harness checked which has cost a fortune! The problem doesn't happen everyday had it plugged in and faults cleared so when it happens again the garage will run it on the diagnostic for me. Clearing all te faults made the problem go away for about a month and now yesterday guess what?? Same thing happened!!! So going to take it back to the garage when I can eventually drive down there and see what th outcome is ££££. Also to top it of my clutch is on the way out to put refuse to have it done until I am resolve this prob

I have fixed problem on my wifes car but might not be the same issue... I have had diagnostic test from Renault with 'suspected' problem with ECU...wait for it...£700!!.
I cleaned throttle body ect as recommended and also checked the loom from throttle body which goes towards and behind the air intake where it is clipped to metal plate. This plate was loose and rubbed against white cable which can be traced to tb. With some insulation tape and securing metal plate to prevent it vibrating it has mixed problem.

It has been snowing in ireland for the last week but on the morning after a heavy snowfall this problem has occurred... Also it is on 2 bars of petrol, it kind of went away after reconnected the leads to the Spark plugs... but again it snowed last night and it is once again on 2 bars of petrol and hence one week later the problem has reoccured... so i cant narrow it down just yet....
p.s. i have a 1.2 16v clio extreme 05

Argh mine too. Just started doing this over the last two weeks. Does it everyday but only seems to do it in the early mornings. could it be anything to do with temperature or damp????

Same thing happening to my Clio. Can start the car 20 times & it's fine then the next time it revs between 1000 & 2000 rpms. Had everything to bits but no obvious problems. It fixes itself after a few minutes or if you disconnect the cables to the ecu. Any ideas?

same thing tryed to start the car 3 mins afta i last started it up and only reved on its own 1000 -2000 -1000-2000 rpm ... had to leave it 5 mins any ideas dont wnat to be stuck somewere if it duz it agen lol cherz

i never managed to find the problem and the only thing i never changed was the ecu which was gonna cost me over 800 to get replaced and the main renault dealer said they still couldn garauntee that the fault would go away so since then i got rid of the car cos it was costin me more than wat the car was worth

I also have a similar problem - the light comes on and there is no acceleration at all. However, my engine doesn't rev afterwards. The only solution is to turn the engine off and restart - but that doesn't always work. It's been to the garage three times now and they have written down the various codes that come up - but none of them indicate a problem.

I would be interested to know if anyone has found the cause

have you found a fix for the problem! my car is doing the same cause by the time i get it to the garage it seems to be fine!
