Vokera mynute PRV not working?

Hi

The pressure in the boiler had dropped to almost 0bar as it tends to do over time. I filled the system back to 1bar but by the next day it was sitting dormant at 3bar. Weird I thought! so I turned the heating and water on and watched the pressure build to 4bar!!(took about 30 mins) The PRV didn't trigger and no water was dumped! so, I turned the system off again allowed it to cool and blead a rad until the pressure was 1bar (About 2/3ltrs of water) I then left it over night and ran the heating and water all day today and the pressure has held at 2bar.

We have had to have the expansion vessle pumped up a couple of times so could this be the problem again? or the heat exchange? or a faulty PRV???

Any ides at all?!!?

Not normally, that would be a repair job, it isn't that common a problem, I would only expect it to happen in some boilers and even then only once during the lifetime of the boiler. Although it probably points to your system water being dirty and may need flushing to clean your system water.

Hey thanks Taliskerman,

Is cleaning the hose connecting to the expansion vessel part of a service do you think? we had it serviced not to long ago and maybe they missed it? or alternatively we also had a rad moved, maybe in doing this some muck has been introduced?

Either the expansion vessel is burst internally or more likely the hose going to the expansion vessel is choked solid. The system then keeps expanding and blows water out the prv because the blockage means the system water has no other means of expansion. You have to drain the system and remove the hose, the problem with that is there is a lot of pressure built up behind the blockage and it can get messy when you disconnect it, hot water can shoot out at 3 bar so wrap an old towel round the connection as you disconnect it and wear old clothes that won't matter if you get soaked with dirty water! Clear the blockage in the hose with a long thin screwdriver or wire, reconnect and check the vessel air pressure is ok, refill the water and you should be fine after that! Hope this helps.
