Mend Canon 400D Turns Switch Off

Canon 400D LCD turns on with main power switch off?

My Canon 400D (XTi) LCD turns on occasionally when main camera power switch is off. Does anyone know why and is there a fix short of returning to Canon for expensive repair cost (Camera out of Warranty)

Needless to say, this runs battery down quickly.
