How can I fix my 2006 Honda Accord DVD player? ?

The centre console of my Honda Accord contains the sat nav unit (screen+player) plus another DVD player unit (the screen for this pops down from the roof of the car). The sat nav DVD player works fine, but the other one will only play Region 1 DVDs, although I live in the UK and the car was purchased 2nd hand in the UK in August 2009 (it's never been anywhere near the US!!) and registered in the UK in Aug 06, so should obviously play region 2. I have rung Honda customer services, who have no suggestion, other than to take it to a Honda dealer, who will probably quote an arm and a leg, which I can't afford!!! Does anyone have any ideas, please? My son is getting sick of watching Shrek 3 and Wall-E, which are the only two region 1 DVDs I have - help!!
