Mend Battery Engine Today

Battery?

Following on from my first question about the alternator of my dads vauxhall cavalier, since then the battery has fried...when I started the engine up today I could smell a strong smell of rotten eggs, on opening the bonnet I could see the battery leaking and was hot...The battery is only two years old, could all these factors be linked to the new alternator?

would not be the first time a new part was faulty,check the charging rate with a voltmeter,should be around 14v with engine running,
