how do I replace a solid plate on a hob?

turn off the mains,remove the hob from its mounting,turn it over,remove the small screws around the perimeter,lift tray off,you will see the elements,they are bolted to the top of the hob,remove the faulty unit,taking note of the wiring,
fit new unit,rewire,then put tray back on,replace all fixing screws,and nuts(if fitted)
