Mend Hoover Family 1600 Washing Machine Filter

Hoover Family 1600 not working properly?

I have a hoover family 1600. It wouldn't spin so I emptied the filter and tried a spin and it worked fine but when I try to do a wash it stops when it should start to spin and the Start button and Mega Wash button start flashing - help?
