How to fix my washing machine [Hot point,WD 640?

Hi,
I am using a 5 years old washing machine which had no problem accept over flowing the water while on high spin. So, I have cleaned the filter and refitted as it was, since then i do not get all the programmes properly run.
Example: If i leave on any programme the machine runs continuosly by taking water once and again accept on rinse & spin programme which runs as normal.
