Mend Apple A1285 Click Problem Model

ipod nano 4th gen click wheel problem?

The click wheel on my ipod nano 4th gen model A1285 will only work when it is on my docking station, if it's not on the station it will not respond at all. Please help if you can. I got it for my birthday and would hate to have to replace it.
