Mend Craftsman 917.273140 Transmission Riding Mower

how does transmission freewheel lever attach on a craftsman riding mower?

I have a craftsman riding mower model # 917.273140. it ran fine but suddenly stopped all action. when I looked into the possible causes, I saw the freewheel lever was missing(it had been there before) but cannot find where it attached to or the lever itself(it could have dropped I guess). no exploded views show an attachment point on the transmission-any Ideas?
