How do we replace the retractible cord on our Kenmore vacuum 116.27212790?

Our cord has started to fray down at the very end by the reel and we need to replace the cord. Need to find the exact cord as well as how do we replace it? We have a Sears Kenmore 116.27212790. We bought it in 2001 and I just love the way it cleans.
