Access to Rainbow Vacuum Electric cord?

Does the Gasket just inside the water shroud need to be removed to get at more screws to access the electrical cord. My cord started to run "green substance" while operating it. I have a new cord and I do not know exactly how to replace it. It looks like the "gasket" has to be removed. It appears to be "glued" in place. If so, what kind of glue might it be? and does it need to be removed.

The secret to having your Rainbow operating the way you first purchased, is regular full disassembly and clean and service . Older models are easily maintained. We've helped many clients , since the early eighties. Replacing your older model is not required. If you were pleased with the performance of your older Rainbow vacuum, it can still happen again. This is our specialty We have noticed a turn around trend to Repair and Recondition. It makes perfect sense, and we can still assist. Contact us We are a Independent service Centre with many years of expertise with the Rainbow, and are not associated with the manufacturer.

Hi there Lloyd, as well as other D-series Rainbow Vacuum owners. There are TWO entirely different main switch designs to rewire your main cord. In many cases, self installation should be reconsidered in that:
Do you realize what has brought on this condition in the first-place? "green substance" leaking.
Your motor is asking for too much "amperage" to go through the cord, to make it run. Solid insulation within the cord wiring, is becoming "liquified".
If you just replace the cord, without servicing your motor, You will have this problem Re-Occur. Congested moving and stationary fan stages, exhausted sealed bearings should be changed. Carbon brushes should be re-seated and/or replaced etc. Your problem is a gradual happening. Therefore not evidencing itself in early stages.
We have serviced Rainbow Vacuums since 1984.
Perhaps we can help others, now or in the future. Our firm located in Winnipeg,Manitoba,Canada. Full maintenance is available. We have the experience and patience to fully service your Rainbow to perform effectively as you first experienced. Regular TLC is all it takes.

If you have model D4C or SE, yes, remove that gasket. Peel it off slowly so as not to damage it, otherwise you might need a new gasket. Remove the 4 screws to take off bottom plastic cover piece....that will expose 4 more screws up inside the canister housing. Remove those 4 also, and you can separate the canister housing into 2 halves, enough so as to replace the cord. After reassembly, reglue gasket on with waterproof glue (water silicone sealer also works).

The gasket is glued in place. Be gentle removing it, and you can reuse it. This will allow you to remove the baffle plate to the see more screws that will separate the top from the bottom. From here, you will then see 4 screws in the very top. This will allow you to access the switch where the cord ends. Call us if you need further help.
