Mend Maytag LAT9206AAE Washer Timer

What's wrong with it?

I have a Maytag Dependable Care Washer. Model LAT9206AAE. I set it to wash but does not do anything. The timer is clicking but it does not actually doing anything. If I pull the setting knob out and to the side it clicks on temporarily. Sometimes it will do a function, but then it stops. The timer keeps going as if it was running.
