Mend Maytag Timer Problem Model

Maytag LAT9306AAE Is this a timer problem? ?

I have an older Maytag washer Model #LAT9306AAE... it has been pretty good with the exception of when the timer goes out on the regular section of the timer dial. Apparently it never completes the spin and drain part of the cycle. My wife has gotten around the problem for some time now using the permanent pres section of the dial, but now it is starting to do the same thing. Is this a timer problem? Can it be fixed just by simply switching out the timer or is it something much more complicated?
