How can I repair my Hitachi TV?

How can I repair my Hitachi TV? When I turn it on, it usually takes up to TWO AND A HALF HOURS to come on. While it is coming on, a light flashes (two lines) and makes putt putting noises. Also when you are watching it, the screen sometimes turns blue and distorate. When it is distorating, the sound goes with it. (Also the TV is about 16 years old and has had previous problems before.)

Just a word of caution. The mains filter capacitor may hold a charge so be sure to discharge with a 1k resistor first.

Check electrolytic capacitors in power supply starting with mains filter one.

Buy a new on. TVs are very cheap these days. Get a widescreen.
