Tom Toms suffer from a well-known fault, where the charging light will be on, but the unit does not charge. Linked to this is the problem of the unit not charging unless you wiggle the mount, or push down on one (normally the left) side of the unit when it is fitted into the mount - my Tom Tom suffers from this currently. I replaced the mount and it made no difference! I am guessing that the unit's charging terminal is worn, or loose, inside the unit. Companies such as Satnavrepaircentre.com in London can fix it for you for a price. I've yet to work out if a DIY fix is possible, however i fear the answer will be NO, and i may have to cough up the money for them to do the work.
Hope that helps.
