TomTom will not get charged?

Some Tom Toms suffer from a charging connection. The green charging light will be on, however the unit is not actually charging, and the battery will steadily wear down until it is flat.
An easy way to check is enter an address; once Tom Tom has created a route it should also show your battery state on the screeen (this may be model dependant). Leave the Tom Tom on charge for 1-2 hours and then redo the steps above: You will easily see if the unit has charged or not.
If it is not charging: Companies such as Satnavrepaircentre.com in London can fix it for a price (there are other companies that also do this fix).Unfortunately i don't know which bits they replace ( and therefore whether a DIY fix is possible).

Does it actually shut down as if it were flat or is it just saying its flat. Could be a glitch were its reading flat but actually not, leave it on charge, use it and see how long it will stay on and go from there..
