clutch problem - Mercedes Sprinter 313 cdi?

My clutch ceased working whilst driving and went flat to the floor, when opened up the clutch had totally disintegrated.
Have replaced with brand new clutch, however, now the clutch has gone hard and will not go down.

Have checked flywheel, which although worn appears ok. Have not replace the thrust bearing but pressure appears good.

Any ideas would be most welcome

Replaced the gear selecter and cables. However, whilst driving up a steep hill clutch went flat to floor. Next day the clutch felt better but then stopped working. Will not bite at all. Do you think the whole clutch needs changing of is it a problem with hydraulics etc

Hi I have a 2010 Merc sprinter 313cdi just recently having an issue with clutch pedal becoming very easy to push in in but afder driving for a while it goes back to normal with the compression back I thought it might be the clutch but done the usual checks and clutch even tho the bites high is still there no weird noises knocking judders I have just been to a garage and he has quoted me £900 for supply and fit a new lux full clutch kit but I explained to another garage he thinks it's the master cylinder is letting in air that's why it's so easy to push in and when driving for a while it's getting compression as it's getting rid of the air as a I drive any help would be great thanks mark

I have had a mercedes sprinter 313 cdi semi automatic van for six years. the proplem started a month later. It wont change gear in the middle of the road. After switching the engine off and waiting around in the middle, it might get into gear after half an hour, otherwise i have to call the RAC. The mercedes garage cant rectify the problem and i am fed up.

easy, place the clutch diaphram in the press, you will see three springs on sliders, compress the diaphram and watch the way the spring move, slide the whole spring unit the oposite way to the stop then refit clutch. first push adjusts the cluth to the correct distance so that the pedal travel remains the same throughout the wear of the clutch

Tonight it is a £110 million euro millions jackpot.
My solution, win the jackpot and buy a new van, prferably not a Mercedes!

how did i found out?!!! I had the gearbox in and out four times!! there is a small grommet on the side of the bellhousing and I could see that the thrust bearing could not push the springs in far enough. I had a special tool made my my local machine shop and it worked perfectally, without a special tool it is impossable to fit the cluct correctly. thanks for your help. for details of my special tool. olytruman at hotmail dot com. K, update----Well, Well, Well, Sprinters what a pile of poo! It appears I have found my first SAC (self adjusting clutch) There is a special tool that needs to be fitted to the pressure plate before assembly, this tool holds down the spring fingers all the way in, then when the complete clutch if fitted the springs release to the correct position!!! Failure to fit the clutch correctly results in NO clutch!!! (Ask me how I know)

hi oly ,didnt know what type of clutch fitted, but on man trucks there are 2 roll pins fitted to concentric release assy that you have to reset [by pressing them towards clutch]and when g/box mated to engine it sort of resets itself, as clutch wears down force of diaphragm pushes pins back towards gearbox.dont know if yours is the same but it will be similar . k

Hi, I am the mechanic working on this car, The slave is a 'consentric slave cyliner' type! with no fork or pushrod. K you are correct in you assumption that the slave is at the end of its travel, it so because.... The problem apperas to be that as the new drive plate and cover are installed (same part numbers on new clutch as the one that was removed) the fingers close in towards the flywheel, this is of course normal, but the fingers go all the way to a metal ring mounted on the clutch cover, this then means the fingers can not be pushed any further in by the slave. There must some way of setting the clutch once installed inorder to bring the fingers away from 'the metal ring' inorder for the slave to a) to have somthing to push against and b) be returned? Any ideas? Anyone.

sounds like slave cyl is at end of its travel and piston is butting up against circlip! it relys on pressure plate springs/diaphragm to act on pushrod to return slave cyl piston to its normal position [,i take it you checked clutch against old one and checked clutch fork and pivot for damage/excess wear]is pushrod located in piston of slave cyl?
