Pfaff 1469 Creative - skipping stitches - timing issue?

I have a Pfaff 1469 creative which is skipping stitches, from what I have read it could be a timing issue. I only use my machine every couple of years and I spend $100's having it serviced, it would be great if I knew how to fix the timing myself - does anyone know how to do this?
