Hoover Washing Machine?

My Hoover Elite Heavy Duty is quite old, it washes very well, but during the washings, it stops at the Spray Rinses and we have to constantly open and close the lid for it to continue washing. The bowl tends to tilt and bump side to side until it stops. What we usually do is open the lid, rearrange the clothes, position the center beam to the center and close again...we do this around 10 times, then we can finish the cycle...this is quite inconvenient for us, but because it washes well, we want to find a way to repair it...what is wrong with it? how can we fix it? i am a handyman husband and repairs everything in the house, and this one is something I cannot repair. Please help me with your advice. Thank you.
