polo 1996 central locking stopped working and petrol flap won't open. How d?

Having problems opening my fuel cap as my central locking has stopped working and therefore i can't put any petrol?
I have got a VW Polo 1996.

Hi Laura, if you remove the carpet on the right side of the boot you will see the actuator for the fuel flap if you pull the rod comming from the box the fuel flap will open
