Got up this morning heating didnt come on and no hot water when turned taps?

Got up this morning no hot water and no heating , red water light on boiler was flickering increased water pressure and seemed to cure problem until this afternoon, then had to repeat the process. Any ideas what the prob;em is and how to sort it? Do not have manual wasnt passed one on when bought house
