Main combi 24 HE boiler..Red Flashing light..no hot water?

Wonder if anyone can help?

I have a Baxi Potterton Main Combi 24 HE boiler that is 4 yrs old.

It has been fine until yesterday when the flame failure light came up red and started flashing when i turned on the hot tap. I tried re-setting the boiler but the same thing happened again. It also flashes red when you try to put the central heating on. Sometimes the boiler lights and we have heating and hot water, sometimes it doesn't. We have no water or heating at the moment.

Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? does it need bleeding? I've had no problems with the boiler until yesterday. The pressure bar at the moment is showing below 1 (with boiler switched off) it rises to just over 1 when the boiler is switched on.
