MY DISHWASHER WORKS BUT THE WATER ISN'T HEATING UP. WE HAVE TEMPORILY CONNECTED TO THE HOT WATER SUPPLY.

From what you say the Heating Element is defective.
The hot supply you have arranged may be OK for washing but no good for drying.

Your choices are to repair it or have it repaired or to buy a new one.
