How can I fix/replace Toro XL380H mower cutting deck switch?

The cutting deck pull switch on my Toro XL380H ride-on mower has stopped working altogether after playing up a few times. The blades won't start.
I cannot get the switch removed from the console even though I have removed the fuel tank to get at the back of the switch.
I can remove the six pin plug from the back of the switch but the front and back of the switch appear to be almost glued together.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
