Mend Neff Dishwasher Cycle Switch

Neff intergrated dishwasher?

When the cycle has finished it bleeps, when I open the door to switch it off lots of steam rises and I am afraid it will damage the underside of the worktop, should there be some type of protector fitted, as my Sister has some?
