nissan micra, windsreen wipper control stick?

when driving last night i snapped the stick that controls the speed in which the wippers wipe, i am now trying to fix it i have put it all back together but when you try and turn the wipers on nothing happens, i am not sure what i am doing wrong, if some one could explain how it should go back together.
