How can I fix rear windscreen wiper?

I have a 1998 Nissan Micra and my wonderful son slammed the boot last week and now the wiper doesn't work. If you lift the boot so the door is level then the wiper works but then stops if you lower the boot.

I'm not a technical person so easy suggestions would be great.
