Replacing an alternator fan belt?

Important !! If the belt drives other things such as power steering or aircon, Before you change belt make sure you note or better still draw out it's route around all the pulleys. It can be very difficult to fathom which way it goes round them without a diagram.

No undoing nuts & bolts here ! You need a 15mm flat combination spanner to swing the sprung tensioner wheel over whilst you pull belt from pulley. The sping is quite strong so I sometimes use another ring spanner as an extension lever. Make sure spanner is on bolt well or sore knuckles for you. It takes about 3-5 minutes to do. Just fit the ring end of spanner on the tensioner bolt and push it or pull it. It has to swing a fair way so start as far round as you can. Make sure new belt is lined up in correct grooves.
