My Simpson Concorde 507 top loading washing machine is overfilling?

I wish to know how i could clean the gathered fluff and lint of my top loader washing machine (Concorde model XQB 70-71 ). I wish to know how can i unscrew the steel piece just underneath the plastic agitator. I did unscrew the agitator but there wasnt much fluff there as it gathered underneath the steel (sort of holed strainer). I think its due to the lint as water cannot be emptied fast. thank you
