Mend XM6 Repair Buttons Pressed

Optimax XM6 untruder alarm - can I repair?

My Optimax XM6 seems to have seized up it will not respond to any buttons being pressed at all, it does not even beep.
Could it just need the battery replacing - this was last replaced in 2000. Or is the problem more fundamental?

You can't get more fundamental than a 9 year old battery, should have been changed at 5yrs max.
