What is causing fault with ADT FBII XL-2T system?

We have a home security system FBII XL-2T that was initially installed during home build by ADT. We haven't bothered with the service for years and eventually unplugged the system because the plug/transformer died. Now we are trying to get it working again. We replaced the 120V plug and put in a new 12V battery. It seemed to work fine at first but then would go off intermittently for no reason. Watching it, it looks like there are periodic drops in power but I thought that is what the battery was suppose to catch. This *looks* like what sets the alarm off and it comes up with different codes. Usually, it looks like zone 06 is at fault but on occasion, it gives me a code FC which I can not find anywhere in any of the manuals (but I think is a fire code). Could this be a case of the "motherboard" being fried?

I don't know 1) what might be causing the drops in power, 2) why the battery is not kicking in when the power does drop, or 3) what the non-zone codes mean. Does the system have to be 'reprogrammed'? Does anyone have a technician's manual that goes beyond the standard user's manual? Can I just replace the guts of the system myself without affecting the wiring and without ADT?

We just want an alarm, not a monitoring service and they are charing over $100 just for the first 30 minutes of a service call.

Take a look,

Its the same as the factory one I have here on compact disc, unfortunately it doesn't and will not contain any software changes made by ADT.

What monitoring devices have you running on zone six ?,there's a possibility of smoke, or carbon monoxide detectors running,

If you can bypass/omit zone six then it isn't a fire zone,

your fault here is with one or more detectors on that zone,if zone six isn't used it should be linked out with a diode.

I would also default all communications, as the panel will have been programmed for this on installation, due to the requirements of the monitoring contract, or program it with your cell no`s if you wish.

There doesn't sound like you have either AC/mains,or backup battery issues here, but that cannot be ruled out without further tests.

The switching of the panel you discribe is just the triggering effect on it caused by activation,

you can run this panel on either AC only, or battery only,or both as recommended. As for a fried board, it highly unlikely, but cannot be ruled out.Unfortunately a replacement isn't an option, as this is now obsolete, and ADT uk and usa have now moved on from the XL2.

As for the programming, its in the manual, but there maybe some programming changes made by adt that are not in there.A google search can turn up the XL2 hook up manual.
