how can i make my screen turn on?

my tv when i plug it in makes the sound like it turns on but nothing is shown on the screen. When i push the power button i get no response. I even tried using a universal remote control but it still did nothing.
i was wondering if you can give me advice how to fix this problem. It's a sony trinitron, model number is
kv-32xbr50. It was made in the 1990's if that helps.
