this sounds like a bad power supply in the tv. it is common to go bad at this age.a repair cost will range around 400.00. this is a good model and if it has been playing fine all these years without problems?? then i would say have one repair done on it.
also a hitachi`s web site is a great place to find a repairman.

May have microprocessor related problems similar to the AP73 chassis. The repair on those are to replace the memory ic and reprogramm it. Contact Hitachi tech services to confirm if this is their recommended fix for your symptom. Also, check the power supply for proper operation and the hv protect circuits.

Sounds like a common problem where the Horizontal Output Transistor shorts due to heat, loading by a partially shorted flyback or yoke or old dried heat sink compound. If the HOT is ok then there is probably a short in another component. This can be determined in most cases by isolating each module one at a time. In other words disconnect the audio circuit and try, disconnect each crt separately, etc. If no shorts are determined check the power supply for proper output voltages. All this would need to be done by a tech or someone familiar with the process. Repair cost should not be that much compared to the cost of a new set.

Hitachi 50FX30B - How Long will it last after Repairs?

Hi, we own a Hitachi 50FX30B Rear Projection TV which was purchased around '95-'96 (11-12 year TV)and the Power Supply had a problem. We repaired it at $165 CDN recently. How long will the TV last after this repair? Was it worth fixing?

We just want to know so we know the best time to purchase a new TV

Hi, If your led`s don`t stay lit your set has a short, check all of the little chemical fuses near the led`s one or more are open, once you find the open fuse that`s the line with the shorted part on it, I would say without some experience with tv repair your probably not going to be able to fix it yourself, time to call a tech,
