Mend Maytag A482 Load Washer

Leaking injector sleeve??

Directly under the top of my A482 Maytag top load washer, there is, what appears on the diagram to be an injector sleeve. It is small plastic thing in line in the injector hose. It overflows on occassion. Not ever during the initial fill, but sometimes, during the rinse cycle. It overflows and leaks in side the cabinet, eventually appearing as a leak on the floor. What is this thing for, and why does it leak, when the lines are obviously clear. thanks for your help.
