Mend Fisher & Paykel Clothes Hello Washer

F&P black marks on clothes ?

Hello,
Along with the Fisher & Paykel ecoSmart GWL11 washer, we also have the front load F&P dryer. I don’t remember the model but it is the one that is basically a Maytag (or other maker) that has the customized F&P control panel. Ever since I got these two (3 or 4 years ago) every once in a while I will find small black streaks (about an inch long) on white clothing such as under shirts or sheets. I have always attributed this to the dryer, but I have never been able to find the cause. (In the troubleshooting section of the washers owner’s manual it mentions scrud, but I don’t think this is the problem as we regularly wash in a hot cycle and never use fabric softeners. No mention of this in the dryer manual). Last night we washed a white felt blanket that came out with really bad greasy type streaks that were very large and some were at least 6 inches long. We spot treated them and rewashed it to get most of it out. (In this same load was another white cotton blanket and other assorted pieces, nothing was overly soiled or greasy and nothing else came out with these streaks) So this time I know it happened in the wash, although there may still be something going on with the dryer too so please chime in if the little streaks are familiar. Is there any parts that would fail that would allow grease or oil into the wash? It is working fine and we have done a few loads since with no troubles.
Are others experiencing at least the same little streaks that I have always had? Perhaps a fix is out there?

Would someone be willing to email me a service manual for a Fisher & Paykel GWL11 to levin dot davie at gmail dot com

Thanks much!

no matter what you do or how often you do it the scrud will come back. It is a redicliuos process to have to disassemble the machine up to 4 times a year to combat this problem. All reccomendations from F.P. have not solved this problem. I wish I never bought this machine.

Remove lid. Remove the two rubber plugs at front of top deck & the screws under them. Lift out two clips at rear of deck holding deck down to body. Raise the deck slowly & be careful of the out of balance lever hanging down at right rear corner. They can break if you get it caught against the bowl. Get someone to hold it up while you remove the top cover ring by unclipping it. Then lift out inner drum.

Thank you for that answer! I looked at this last night, but am not sure how to remove the top deck. Can you please explain?

Thanks again!

The F&P ecosmart & smartdrive machines do not have a gearbox so there is no oil or grease apart from a small amount of grease on the bearings. There is a rubber seal between the bearing & the water in the wash tub. This would have to be completely destroyed before the grease got anywhere near the washing. By then you would have water all over the floor, so I doubt that is the cause. Sounds more like what you called scrud. Raise the top deck, remove the agitator & pull up on the stainless steel drum to remove it. You can then clean the inside of the plastic bowl & outside of the stainless steel inner bowl.
