Can i replace/repair the base of a dualit tea kettle?

is it possible to replace or repair the base on a dualit electric tea kettle? i have one, model JKT1US, and the bottom "shorted out." i have replaced the whole unit with a new one, and the old tea pot doesn't sit right on the new base. i hate to have to throw out the old tea pot, which is still perfectly fine.

is there any way to replace that old base or open it to replace a part?
