i have an engine light that stays on on my dash what does this mean?

Engine light on means the computer has sen a fault somewhere and has set a code ......need to use scanner and find which code it has set and go from there .......advanced auto or other Parts stores will scan the system and tell you what code has been stored for free ......just call around to your local parts stores ........could always take it to a local dealership and you will be billed about $75.00 for diagnostic fee .
NO REPAIR just tell you what the problem and code it is .....
