How can I fix my 1997 Fiesta Ghia remote key/dash light?

Hi I have a 1997 fiesta 1.2 ghia zetec auto. I cannot get the remote key to work. I have tried to programme the key as per the owners manual but it doesn't work. Checked the ir in my camera and the light is clearly lighting. If I press the remote the red light does not work however if I hold the button down for a few seconds the red light flashes once (both buttons). When I follow the instructions in the manual the led flashes 5 times but the light beside the clock stays on.
Any ideas please?
2nd problem - door open light on dash stays on constantly while ignition is on/engine running. all interior lights are working as they should and even removing the interior light fuse does not turn the light off. When I got the car, locking the car via the drivers door made the indicators flash twice which I presume was the alarm arming. This does not happen now. The drivers door lock locks with the key but doesn't unlock and i had to replace the drivers door lock mechanism as it stopped working. Central locking works ok, boot release works ok.
